Eau Claire, WI : Man in custody after crash, threats on Saturday, February 11th 2017
A 19-year-old male was taken into custody Saturday night after failing to comply to with police officers, according to Eau Claire Police Department spokesman Kyle Roder.
Police were responding Saturday evening to a caller who said the male appeared to be armed and was aiming the weapon at himself and others.
The male crashed his vehicle into a snowbank on the 700th block of South Dewey Street and when officers arrived the man was approaching people on the porch of a home with his hands in his pocket. According to Roder, he appeared to be reaching for something.
After failing to comply with the officer’s request, police fired a pellet bullet at him using a less-lethal bean bag gun — which has the same effect of a taser — and got the man to the ground. Officers then used a bulletproof shield to pin him to the ground before taking him into custody.
It is unclear at this time whether or not the male did in fact have a weapon on him while approaching the house. Police did discover four realistic looking guns in the man’s possession that turned out to be two air rifles and two bean bag guns. The male also had a machete in his vehicle.
