Harlem, IL : Huntley man killed in Kennedy Expressway crash on Friday morning, May 6, 2016
Illinois State Police have identified a man killed in a crash Friday morning on the Kennedy Expressway as 22-year-old Griffin Krewer of Huntley.
A preliminary investigation showed that about 7:30 a.m. a purple Dodge Caravan, driven by Krewer, was traveling south in the far right lane on the Kennedy Expressway at Harlem Avenue, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.
Krewer was driving the Dodge Caravan at a “significant rate of speed” when it struck a white Ford pickup truck, police said. The impact caused a four-vehicle pileup, and all southbound lanes at Harlem had to be shut down, police said.
All vehicles except the Dodge Caravan were stopped at the time of the crash, police said.
A 42-year-old Chicago man in one of the vehicles struck was taken to Resurrection Hospital in Chicago with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, police said. Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, police said.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing, police said.
