Pleasant Twp, OH : Driver killed in a fatal car accident on the Clark County and Champaign County lines on Friday night, May 20, 2016

A Springfield man was killed in a fatal car accident on the Clark County and Champaign County lines Friday night.

The call came in just after 7:30 Friday night. The accident happened on State Route 4 and County Line Road.

Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the victim as 58-year-old Patrick Smedley. Troopers tell 2 NEWS Smedley lost control coming over a hill on OH-4 and hit a tree. They say the impact from hitting the tree is what killed him.

Troopers say it was raining at the time of the crash, and wet roads could have been a factor.

Troopers say there are no signs alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Smedley was wearing his seat belt.

The crash is still under investigation.
