Upper Saddle River, NJ : New York man charged with DWI after crash in Upper Saddle River on Wednesday, January 7, 2015

A 26-year-old New York man was allegedly driving drunk when he crashed his car on Lake Street around 1 a.m. Wednesday and ran 1½ miles before being caught by police, authorities said.

Pearl River resident Malachy Concar is charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest, as well as other motor vehicle offenses, Detective Lt. Ed Kane said in a news release. Concar was released to a family member.

Concar lost control of the car and crashed into a large decorative rock, Kane said.

A witness saw the driver run through a nearby backyard and officers from Upper Saddle River, Saddle River, Ramsey and the Sheriff's Office K-9 unit searched for him.

A Ramsey officer found him about 1.5 miles away on Main Street in Ramsey arrested him.
