Albany, OR : I-5 auto crash update on Thursday, 25th August, 2016
Emergency crews shut down both the north and southbound lanes of 1-5 for more than 40 minutes Thursday evening after a series of auto crashes.
The first one was a single car accident at about 5 p.m. south of the Tangent Drive overpass. Next, crews responded to a rollover crash at the Ridge Drive overpass at 5:26 p.m., which involved a van carrying four people. That incident sent one person to Good Samaritan hospital ion Corvallis.
Then, at 5:58 p.m., a jack knifed semi truck a mile south of Highway 228 kept crews busy as well. That incident involved a 50-gallon diesel fuel spill and led to a rear-end collision involving a service truck, which was a direct result of the stopped traffic. A REACH air ambulance transported one person from that scene.
All traffic was diverted onto Highway 228 until crews were able to open one lane on 1-5 in each direction. In all, the Albany, Tangent, and Lebanon fire departments, as well as Albany Police, Oregon State Police and Linn County Sheriff's Office participated.
