Brookston , IN : 24 Years old man who had Heart transplant as an infant was killed in car wreck on Monday , December 22nd 2014
ec. 24--A 23-year-old Chicago man who was known as "Baby Quinn" when he had a heart transplant as an infant died in a car wreck Monday evening in Indiana, according to authorities and a spokeswoman for the family.
Quinn J. Kyles, of Chicago, died at the scene of the crash, said Indiana State Police Sgt. Alan Jamerson.
"He lived an amazing young life,'' said LaTanya Marble, a spokeswoman for the family.
Kyles received heart transplant surgery at Children's Memorial Hospital shortly after his birth in 1991 and was called "Baby Quinn'' in one of multiple Chicago Tribune stories about the operation.
Kyles' family is "trying to digest'' the bad news, said Marble.
Kyles was behind the wheel of a BMW which collided with a 2012 Acura MDX Monday about 5:30 p.m. on northbound I-65 near Brookston, north of Lafayette in White County, Indiana, according to a statement from state police.
The black, 2014 BMW X1 was northbound in the left lane when it passed the gray Acura and appeared to have hydroplaned, striking the back of the Acura and sending both vehicles out of control, according to state police.
The Acura, being driven by a 39-year-old man, spun into the ditch and the BMW rolled multiple times and landed on its wheels in the ditch.
The driver of the BMW, later identified as Kyles, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 47-year-old co-worker of Kyles who was a passenger in the BMW was treated for non-life threatening injuries at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette after she was able to climb out of the vehicle.
The BMW is a total loss while the Acura sustained heavy damage. Seatbelts appeared to be in use by all occupants, state police said.
The pavement was wet and light rain was falling at the time.
None of the four occupants of the Acura was injured.
