NEWTOWN, CT : Deadly crash closed stretch of I-84 in Newtown on Wednesday, 26th February, 2020

A deadly crash closed a stretch of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The state Department of Transportation indicated that a one-vehicle crash was reported around 2 p.m. between exits 10 and 11 of I-84 east.
Initially, only the right lane of travel of the highway was closed between the two exits. But around 3:15 p.m., State Police units closed the highway’s eastbound lanes.
Later Tuesday afternoon, Connecticut State Police confirmed it was a fatal crash. It was unclear how many people were in the vehicle.
The crash created a traffic nightmare throughout rush hour, with the DOT reporting traffic backed up for nearly 12 miles — between exits 3 and 11 — for more than an hour.
