Loveland, CO : Longmont man seriously injured in motorcycle accident on Monday September 5 2016

A 53-year-old Longmont man was seriously injured early Monday morning in the 2400 block of Eagle Drive when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.

According to Sgt. Mike Halloran, officers responding to the accident just before 12:30 a.m. called in members of the technical crash investigation team to investigate the single-vehicle crash.

According to a release from Halloran, the man was driving a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on South Gilpin Avenue near the T intersection at Eagle Drive when he attempted to brake but was unable to.

While the Longmont man was attempting to brake, the motorcycle struck a dip in the roadway and spun until it went airborne.

The release stated the motorcycle landed on its left side and slid to a stop, only partially in the roadway.

The man was ejected from the motor cycle and "suffered serious bodily injury."

Officers closed the intersection at Gilpin Avenue and Eagle Drive for approximately two hours for investigation.

Investigators believe speed and impairment were contributing factors.

Police officials are not releasing additional information at this time.
