Van Wert County, OH : Teen dies in 1-car accident on U.S. 224 in Van Wert County on Monday morning, September 22, 2014
A Fort Jennings, Ohio, teen lost his life in Van Wert County today, Ohio State Patrol said.
Police say 18-year-old Matthew S. Niemeyer was driving west on U.S. 224, near John Yoh Road, at 07:58 a.m., when he missed a curve, hit a telephone pole, and drove into a ditch. The car then flipped back onto the road and landed upright after hitting the ditch a second time.
Neimeyer and his front seat passenger, Brandon J. Kimmet, 17, were taken by ambulance to St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima, Ohio, with non-life threatening injuries.
Christopher J. Mohr and Jacob E. Guy, both 17, were in the backseat of the car and both were ejected. Mohr was airlifted to St. Rita’s. Guy was pronounced dead at the scene.
None of the teens were wearing seat belts, the state patrol said.
The crash is under investigation.
