One person was killed in a deadly crash involving two cars late Friday night in the Galivants Ferry area, authorities said.
Derrick James Sr., 64, of the Galivants Ferry area died at scene from trauma suffered during the crash, and his death was ruled accidental, Darris Fowler, Horry County deputy coroner said.
The crash occurred at 11:10 p.m. when the 20-year-old driver of a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck disregarded a stop sign while traveling north on Gumtree Road and collided with a 2007 Charger driven by James that was headed east on Jordanville Road, according to Sgt. Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The Charger caught fire after the collision, authorities said.
The driver of the pickup truck was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, along with a passenger who also suffered injuries, authorities said.
