UT Martin student killed in single-car accident

The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated a fatal single-car crash this morning in Gibson County, according to a report from THP.The report states Trystan Bechtel, 19, was traveling north on State Highway 54, three miles northeast of Bradford, around 10 a.m. in her 1999 Ford Explorer when the vehicle left the highway and struck a bridge barrier.

The vehicle overturned, and she was ejected. The report says Bechtel wasn't wearing her seatbelt.Bechtel was a 2013 graduate of Peabody High School and was attending the University of Tennessee at Martin. UTM said that while Bechtel was in her freshman year, she had enough hours to qualify her as a sophomore.

Bechtel is from Trenton and was a member of AOPi Sorority and was in the pre-physical therapy program, UTM said.
