LAS VEGAS, NV : Driver arrested after boy struck by van dies on Friday, 6th October 2023
A 5-year-old boy struck by a van Friday morning during his school dropoff died after being taken to the hospital, according to the city of North Las Vegas.
“While waiting on private property in a line of stopped vehicles to be dropped off at school, a 5-year-old boy exited the rear driver’s side door of a vehicle and ran across the driveway. The driver of the work van pulled from behind the stopped vehicles to go around them and struck the boy,” the news release stated.
The child was struck around 7:50 a.m. in the 4600 block of Losee Road, between Craig and Lone Mountain roads, which is near Somerset Academy.
The boy was transported to University Medical Center’s trauma unit where he later died.
Police said the driver was cooperating with the investigation and was not suspected of impairment. He voluntarily agreed to a blood draw.
The driver, who police identified as 41-year-old Guillermo Cchochi Senobua, was arrested on charges of involuntary manslaughter and full-time attention to driving after the fact. He was booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center.
Police later learned that Senobua had a DUI warrant out of Texas.
