Bountiful, UT : Three injured in Bus Crash on on Interstate 15 On Thursday Night, October 23rd,2014
A crash on Interstate 15 involving two Weber State University buses and five other vehicles caused non-life-threatening injuries and a major traffic tie-up Thursday night.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. when a Pontiac hit the right concrete barrier near Pages Lane in Bountiful, spun out of control and traveled across all southbound lanes of traffic until it struck the center media, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Greg Hollingsworth said.
As other drivers tried to avoid hitting the Pontiac, one bus struck the other bus, Hollingsworth said. He added that the drivers likely prevented their passengers from being hurt by getting out of the way of the car.
Another car was hit by a truck when the driver switched lanes, Hollingsworth said. Two other vehicles also were hit in the crash, he said.
A woman and a man in the Pontiac each suffered a fratured femur and the driver of the vehicle hit by the truck had less serious injuries, Hollingsworth said.
The crash backed up traffic to Farmington. One southbound lane was opened about 8:35 p.m., with all lanes cleared by about 9:45 p.m., and the Utah Department of Transportation opened the Legacy Parkway at Parrish Lane to semis until 11 p.m.
