Austin, TX : Four taken to hospital following Orange Co. highway collision on Saturday, February 25th 2017
Interstate 10, near the Neches River Bridge in Orange County, has reopened following a two-hour closure caused by an eight-vehicle crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The initial crash, which happened around 1:15 p.m., involved a 2014 Ford Mustang that rear-ended a 2015 Chevrolet pickup traveling west on Interstate 10. Six cars came to a stop behind the collision when the last vehicle in line, a 2007 Chevrolet pickup towing heavy equipment, caused a domino effect of more rear-end collisions, Sgt. Stephanie Davis with the DPS confirmed.
Davis confirmed that the driver of the Ford Mustang involved in the initial crash, Shaeli Howell, 18, and the passenger Jewel West, 18, were taken to St. Elizabeth's with non-life threatening injuries. Both victims are from Weatherford, Texas.
The driver of the 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck, a 16-year-old man and the passenger, 61-year-old Cayden Bosak were also taken to St. Elizabeth's. Both men are from Needville, Texas. Davis said Bosak's injuries appeared to be serious.
Davis confirmed that Howell and the driver of the 2007 Chevrolet pickup were issued traffic citations for failure to control speed.
