Hancock ,NY : 37- Years old New Jersey man killed after single-car crash into Delaware River on Tuesday ,May 5th 2015

State police are investigating a single-car crash along the Delaware River in southeastern New York that took the life of a 37-year-old New Jersey man.

Troopers say a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Stephen Maikisch of Somerset, New Jersey, exited on the westbound side of Route 17 in the Town of Hancock early Tuesday at a high rate of speed, drove through a t-intersection at the end of the ramp, and hit a guide rail and several trees.

An accident reconstruction showed the Jeep traveled about 200 feet before coming to rest about 50 feet into the river in an upright position and half-submerged. The victim was found dead inside the heavily damaged, 15-year-old vehicle.

The Delaware County coroner's office says results of a urine test are pending.
