The driver of a car being chased by police was killed when his vehicle collided with a school bus in Wilmington, Delaware.
It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 800 block of Delaware Avenue.
The police say they spotted the car being driven erratically through the streets of Wilmington. The car apparently sideswiped several parked vehicles.
Police tried to stop the vehicle involved at 12th and West but the driver sped off.
Three blocks later, right where 12th turns into Delaware Avenue, the driver lost control on the curve.
The vehicle jumped the median and slammed into the school bus.
There were no children on the bus at the time of the crash. The bus driver suffered a knee injury, but was able to walk to a stretcher and was taken to the hospital for observation.
The 18-year-old driver of the car was trapped inside. A doctor who happened to be nearby rushed to his aid until medics arrived.
However, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The bus was on its way to pick up children at Warner Elementary School in Wilmington because their regular bus had broken down.
Police are not releasing the name of the driver as their investigation continues.
