Fairfield , CT : Driver trapped in flaming car after car crashed into Utility Pole on Tuesday night , May 19th 2015

When Fairfield police officers got to the scene of a crash Tuesday night, they found a car on fire with a driver inside.

By the time fire crews put the fire out, the driver was dead, according to a news release from the Fairfield Police Department.

Police believe the deceased driver tried to pass a car in the 6200 block of Winton Road -- where passing is restricted by double yellow lines, the release states.

The car was traveling at high speed and collided head-on with a Jeep coming from the other direction, police said.

The crash sent the car into a utility pole where it immediately became engulfed in flames, the release states. The driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, the release states.
