Police say two people are dead after their car crashed into a railroad bridge abutment in Old Lyme.

It happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday. Police say 90-year-old Norman Emerson was driving on Mile Creek Road when he lost control and hit the bridge.

The South Lyme man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say his passenger, 87-year-old Janice Brentlinger of Niantic, was also killed.

The crash remains under investigation.
