Ford County, KS : 81-year-old man killed in car-semi crash on US-50 highway near Spearville on Tuesday morning, August 2, 2016
An 81-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning when his car collided with a semi-trailer in Ford County in southwest Kansas.
The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the fatality victim as Martin P. Burke, of Kinsley.
According to the patrol’s crash log, the crash occurred at 8:59 a.m. on US-50 highway and Clark Street near Spearville.
The patrol said Burke was driving a 1992 Buick LeSabre west on US-50 and was attempting a left turn onto Clark Street when it collided with a 2015 International al semi-trailer that was eastbound on UJS-50that was passing a commercial motor vehicle on the right that was waiting to make a left turn onto 126 Road.
The patrol said the semi struck the Buick on the eastbound shoulder of US-50. The Buick came to rest in the parking lot of the Spearville Truck Stop facing northeast while the semi came to rest in the eastbound ditch facing east.
Burke, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was taken to Western Plains Regional Hospital in Dodge City, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the semi, John A. Bauer, 65, of Osborne, was reported uninjured. The patrol said Bauer was wearing a seat belt.
