Riverton, UT : Woman killed, 4 others injured in Riverton car accident on Saturday, November 29, 2014
A 20-year-old Utah County woman died Saturday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in the southwest area of the Salt Lake Valley.
Investigators said the crash occurred just after 4 p.m. when a Hyundai Sonata traveling north on Redwood Road apparently ran a red light and was struck broadside by a Pontiac Grand Prix traveling east on Bangerter Highway.
“According to witnesses, the driver of the Pontiac Grand Prix had a green light to go eastbound on Bangerter Highway, and the driver of the Hyundai Sonata had a red light and passed through that red light,” said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Taylor Zimmerman, of Lehi, was initially transported to University Hospital in extremely critical condition, however, she later died from her injuries, Hoyal said. A 10-month-old boy in the backseat her car suffered minor injuries, he added.
The 28-year-old female driver of the Pontiac was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition, while an 11-year-old passenger in that vehicle was listed in fair condition. A 5-year-old girl also in the Pontiac was treated at the scene and released.
“Right now, there’s no evidence of alcohol or drugs being a factor in this crash,” Hoyal said. “However, as the investigation is ongoing, one of the things the investigators do look at is speed.”
