Newberry County, S.C : One man dead after a wreck on S.C. 34 in Newberry County on Wednesday, December 24, 2014

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said one man is dead after a wreck on S.C. 34 in Newberry County on Christmas Eve night.
Troopers estimated the crash happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday, but Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton said the man wasn't found until Christmas around 7 a.m.

Newton said the man's sister found him after he didn't come home from a shopping trip Wednesday night. The car was found down a deep embankment and due to darkness and rainy weather, other drivers weren't able to see the car until daylight, the coroner said.

Newton identified the driver as Daniel Robert Britton, 53, of Chappells.

Britton was traveling east on S.C. 34 when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road down an embankment and hit a tree, troopers said.

He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to troopers. They pronounced him dead at the scene.

Highway Patrol and the Newberry Coroner's Office are investigating the crash.
