Milford, MA : Connecticut College student killed in SUV crash near her home on Sunday, July 3, 2016

Police in Massachusetts say a Connecticut college student is dead and several people are injured after a car crashed into a utility pole.

Police say 19-year-old Jacqueline Gray, of Milford, was killed near her home when the driver of a sport utility vehicle she was riding in lost control around 10:10 p.m. Sunday on Congress Street in Milford.

Deputy Chief James Heron says it's unclear if the Quinnipiac University student jumped or was thrown from the vehicle. The driver believed the brakes had failed and leapt from the car. Four other unidentified passengers tried to do the same.

Gray died of her injuries at the hospital. No one else was seriously hurt.

Police say Gray's brother was also a passenger. Authorities are investigating what caused the crash.
