Franklin County, OH : Wrong-way driver killed in crash on eastbound I-44 in Franklin County August 6th 2014.
A man driving the wrong way on Interstate 44 was killed early Wednesday in a crash involving four other vehicles near Stanton, Mo., the Missouri Highway Patrol said.
Roy T. Blair, 75, of Richmond Heights, drove five or six miles going the wrong way on I-44 before he slammed into other cars at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, police say.
He was traveling west in the eastbound lanes, police say.
One alert driver who saw Blair's BMW coming at him managed to avoid being hit head-on but was sideswiped by Blair's car, then lost control and struck a tractor-trailer going the same direction.Blair's car spun around and struck two other cars.
At least four people were hospitalized in Sullivan. The ages and conditions of the injured people were not immediately available.
The crash happened near the 233-mile marker. Eastbound traffic is being diverted at the 230-mile marker. Officials don't expect to reopen the highway there until after 9 a.m.
