A pregnant woman died after a wreck in Spartanburg County, but the twin babies she was carrying have survived.
Investigators said the crash happened at about 1 p.m. Tuesday outside Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
The coroner said 19-year-old Ashton Hughes died after the crash. She was leaving a hospital appointment when the wreck happened.
The Highway Patrol said Hughes was conscious after the accident and spoke to a trooper.
The Highway Patrol said Hughes rear-ended an SUV with her car. Troopers said the SUV suffered minimal damage and was driven away from the scene. They have not yet provided any other details of what may have led to the crash.
A 11-month-old was also in the car. That baby was not hurt.
Hughes' twin babies, a boy and a girl, remain in critical condition at Spartanburg Medical Center.
The coroner said it has not yet been determined whether an autopsy will be performed.
