Officials have released the names of two people who were killed in a fatal collision in northern Vermilion County on Wednesday evening.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Denise L. Ried, 59, of Wellington, was pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m. Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
The other victim was Warren W. Harms, 52, of Hoopeston, according to Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden, who released his name this morning. Mr. Harms died at the scene.
Illinois State Police and both coroners' offices are still investigating the head-on collision that occrred about 6:30 p.m. on Illinois 1 between Rossville and Hoopeston.
Police said Mr. Harms' Ford Ranger pickup truck reportedly attempted to pass a vehicle on the state highway near 3870 North Road when it collided head-on with a Chrysler minivan, driven by Mrs. Ried.
