Marco Island,FL : New York state man dies from Jan. 8 East Naples car crash injuries on January, Sunday 21st 2018
A 77-year-old man from Rochester, New York, died Sunday from injuries suffered in a three-vehicle crash in East Naples on Jan. 8.
The victim, John Donovan, failed to yield to oncoming traffic on U.S. 41 East and struck a car in the intersection at Price Street/Triangle Boulevard, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Ten people were injured, seven of whom were sent to hospitals.
Donovan's 2018 Chevrolet Traverse turned into the path of a BMW driven by Naples resident Bharat Rao, 66, who was driving north on U.S. 41, troopers reported. Rao's car hit the passenger side of Donovan's SUV, causing the Chevy to rotate and be redirected to the north, troopers said.
Deanna Healy, 42, a Naples resident who was waiting to turn north on U.S. 41, pulled forward in her 2015 Nissan Altima as she saw the Chevy SUV coming. The front of the SUV hit the back of Healy's Nissan, the FHP said.
A charge of failing to yield was pending for Donovan, who suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. He died Sunday, Jan. 21, an updated FHP report said Monday.
All of the passengers in Donovan's vehicle also were injured: Kathleen Donovan, 75, with serious injuries; Kaitlyn Buckert, 20, minor injuries; and Hannah Nelson, 20, minor injuries. All were from Rochester.
Rao suffered minor injuries, as did two passengers in his car: Warren Lobo, 60, and Roweena Lobo, 54, both of East Islip, New York. Christine Rao, 65, of Naples, was seriously injured and taken to Physicians Regional — Collier Boulevard.
Healy and a passenger, Kaylee Healy, 17, of Naples, suffered minor injuries.
