Motorcyclist, 58, killed in Palmdale, three other bikers hurt, when 19-year-old’s car crosses center line
A 58-year-old motorcyclist was killed, and three other bikers badly hurt, when a 19-year-old motorist’s sedan crossed the center line on Elizabeth Lake Road near Palmdale and hit three motorcycles, the California Highway Patrol said today.
The teenaged driver, Jose Gutierrez, of Palmdale, was jailed on unspecified felony charges, according to the CHP and county jail records.No name has been released yet for the dead man, but he was a resident of Oxnard, the coroner’s office said.Gutierrez was driving east Elizabeth Lake Road, east of Godde Hill Road at about 3:10 p.m. Saturday, according to a CHP report. His 2001 Infinity G20 veered into the oncoming lane, where it struck three westbound motorcycles.
The 58-year-old Oxnard man, driving a 2006 Yamaha XV 1900, was killed at the scene. His name will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the Coroner’s Office.
Paramedics took the three injured motorcyclists to Antelope Valley Hospital. Danny Rincon, 41, of Westlake Village, suffered major injuries on his 2012 Yamaha.Two Moorpark residents riding a 2012 Harley-Davidson also suffered major injuries, the CHP said. They were identified as Richard McBee, 60 and Patty McBee, 55.
Gutierrez suffered minor injuries, was arrested and and then booked into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Palmdale station. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail on unspecified charges.He was scheduled to appear Tuesday at the Antelope Valley Municipal Court.
