Yarmouth police have identified the pedestrian struck and killed on Route 28 in South Yarmouth Wednesday. According to a Yarmouth police release, 19-year-old Wyatt S. Maskell of 200 Old Main Street in South Yarmouth was crossing Route 28 near Mill Lane just before 5:30 p.m. when he was struck by a car.
Officers and firefighters arrived to find Maskell lying in the eastbound lane, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Firefighters provided advanced life support at the scene before Maskell was flown to Rhode Island Hospital by a MedFlight crew. Maskell died overnight at the hospital, the release said.
The 2000 Honda Accord that struck Maskell was driven by 94-year-old Thelma Fields of 103 Fisk Street in West Dennis. Police believe Maskell was crossing the road when he was struck by Fields in the eastbound lane.
The crash is under investigation. Police did not indicate if there would be any charges against the driver.
