Dover, DE : Motorcyclist killed in Magnolia-area crash on Thursday, July 21, 2016

A missing Magnolia man was found dead Thursday, the victim of an apparent motorcycle crash.

Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier identified the deceased as Nathaniel P. Benton, 21.

The crash apparently took place sometime between midnight and 7:40 a.m. Thursday, July 21.

The preliminary police investigation showed Benton had been riding a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle on Peachtree Run Road approaching Irish Hill Road when he apparently failed to stop at a posted stop sign. He went through the intersection, across Irish Hill Road and into a soybean field, where he was thrown from the motorcycle.

A friend found the crash scene after Benton had failed to return home, Fournier said.

Benton was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation into this incident, and alcohol may have been a factor in this crash, Fournier said.
