Wailuku, HI : 19-year-old killed when car goes off cliff on Thursday afternoon, September 18, 2014

A 19-year-old California man died when his car drove off a cliff on Maui. Maui police say Martin Castro Jr. was found Thursday afternoon near D.T. Fleming Beach in Kapalua. The Maui News reports a resident spotted a sedan upside-down in water 60 feet below an area overlooking a bay north of the beach park. Police say the car left the Honoapiilani Highway, drove up an embankment and off the cliff. Police say speed may have been a factor in the crash. Maui County ocean safety rescue personnel recovered the body. Castro was a painter working on Maui. The traffic death is Maui County's 17th this year.
