Walnut Grove, MN :St. Paul, driver injured in crashes into early sunday at 4.45 am July 20 2014.
A Minnesota State Patrol squad was struck by a car it was pursuing during a PIT maneuver early Sunday on Minnesota 5, just west of downtown St. Paul.The driver of the vehicle being pursued, Sheerah K. Pommier, 28, of St. Paul, attempted to steer out of the maneuver but spun around backwards, striking the squad that was pursuing it, according to the state patrol.
The trooper in the squad, James L. Swanson, 51, of Oakdale wasn't injured. Pommier was taken to Regions Hospital with minor injuries.Pommier's 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix was towed after the 4:45 a.m. incident. The patrol car, a 2010 Ford CVC, sustained minor damage.
According to an audio clip on mnpoliceclips.com, St. Paul police attempted to make a traffic stop with Pommier but he fled. He reached speeds of up to 90 mph on Interstate 94, eventually leading squads to Highway 5 near Walnut Street where the PIT maneuver was performed.
