Boulder, CO : One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Longmont on Monday, July 24, 2017
One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Longmont on Monday that took out a light signal at South Martin Street and Ken Pratt Boulevard, police Sgt. Matt Cage said.
Cage said a cement truck and a car were involved in the crash shortly after noon, though police are not saying what they think happened until they have thoroughly investigated.
"It would all be preliminary," he said. " ... They hate to release stuff too early because we have to do everything before we know for sure."
Cage also would not say which driver died, pending notification of family.
Another person was transported to Longmont United Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He originally said two people were taken to the hospital.Neither person has been identified yet by police.
Westbound traffic on Ken Pratt Boulevard was expected to be blocked at Third Avenue overnight and possibly into Tuesday morning because of the investigation and the amount of repair to a downed light signal, which Cage said happened as part of the crash.
"The light signal there is going to take a major amount of repair," he said.
Eastbound traffic reopened later Monday afternoon. Traffic on South Martin Street remains closed between the roundabout and Ken Pratt Boulevard.
Cage said all businesses in the area are open and accessible from the west entering by taking Emery Street from Ken Pratt Boulevard.
Radio traffic indicated that a medical helicopter was called, but canceled.
Monday's fatality is the 17th vehicle-related death in Boulder County this year, including two cyclist deaths and one along Colo. 93 near the border of Jefferson and Boulder counties.
