South Thomaston, ME : St. George man injured after crash on Route 131 in South Thomaston on Thursday afternoon, March 31, 2016
A St. George man was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter Thursday afternoon after a single-car crash on Route 131 in South Thomaston.
A 2009 Toyota Scion, driven by Richard Rydell, 62, was heading south at about 2:30 p.m. when Rydell said he lost consciousness, according to a news release from Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll. The car ended up crossing the northbound lane, went off the road, struck an embankment to a driveway and then hit a parked car, Carroll said.
Rydell told deputies that he had been painting inside earlier and the fumes may have been a factor.
South Thomaston Emergency Medical Services decided that Rydell needed to be flown to another hospital because of the head, neck and leg injuries he suffered in the accident. The EMS crew met LifeFlight at the Knox County Regional Airport in Owls Head. Members of South Thomaston Fire Department also assisted at the crash.
Rydell was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.
