One person is dead and a second is under arrest after a vehicle struck a pedestrian in Salem.

Police say a pedestrian was struck on Bridge Street at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday.

The driver stopped at the scene and was later arrested after being questioned by police.

No names were immediately released but the victim was described as a 42-year-old man.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned Monday on charges to be announced.
