Hawthorne, CA : Multicar collision shuts down 405 Freeway on Friday night October 24th 2014
As many as 10 cars collided in a chain-reaction crash on the northbound 405 Freeway in Hawthorne, leaving several people injured and most of the freeway temporarily shut down, a California Highway Patrol officer said Saturday.
The collision on the freeway at El Segundo Boulevard was reported about 10 p.m. Friday, CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said.
Several people were injured in the crash and paramedics responded to the scene, Villalobos said. The exact tally of victims transported to hospitals was not immediately available.
The collision shut down four of five lanes on the freeway. A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 10:20 p.m. and canceled at 11:17, when the roadway was cleared, Villalobos said.
