SALINA, KS : 2 killed, child hurt in wrong-way crash on Kansas highway on Wednesday, 10th February 2021

Authorities say two drivers died and an 8-year-old girl suffered serious injuries when two vehicles collided on a highway in north-central Kansas.

The accident happened at around 7 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 81 about eight miles north of Salina. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Ford Escape was heading south in the northbound lanes when it crashes into an oncoming Chevy SUV.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford was being driven by 96-year-old Thomas Huiett, of Salina, and 30-year-old Tasha Meitler, of Delphos, was driving the Chevy.

An 8-year-old girl in the Chevy was transported to a Wichita hospital for treatment.

It's unclear why Huiett was traveling in the opposing lanes of traffic.
