Silverton, OH : Southwest Ohio Man Who Helped The Needy Is Hit And Killed On I-71 near Cincinnati on Thursday morning, October 16, 2014

An 80-year-old man killed on a southwest Ohio highway was a well-known fund-raising volunteer whose annual "Rubber Duck Regatta" event helped feed thousands of needy people. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office says Robert Edwards was killed Thursday morning when he was struck by a cement truck on Interstate 71 near Cincinnati. A sheriff's report said Edwards was standing on the shoulder of I-71 and began walking into traffic. The cement truck braked and swerved but couldn't avoid him. He was dead at the scene. Edwards was a longtime member of the board of the Freestore Foodbank, and oversaw the annual Rubber Duck Regatta fundraiser for all of its 20 years, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.
