Shelbyville, IN : Driver dies after multi-vehicle crash on SR 44 on Monday, December 5th, 2016
The driver of a Dodge van died from injuries after a multi-vehicle accident on State Road 44 sent him and another driver to Methodist Hospital by helicopter Monday morning.
The man driving the van has not been identified by authorities, who say the van was westbound on State Road 44 when it sideswiped a 2001 Pontiac Aztec. The driver of the Aztec, Amber Hosier, 45, of Franklin, turned around to track down the van and found it was involved in another multi-vehicle crash.After the initial accident, the van was in a head-on collision with a 2011 Chevrolet truck driven by Barton Brettnacher, 45, of Bargersville. The van was then struck by a 2013 Jeep Wrangler driven by Kyle Gossage, 25, of Shelbyville. That caused the van to strike a 2015 Ford truck driven by Thomas Urrutia, 62, of Morgantown, according to Major Louie Koch of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
Two people, the driver of the van and Brettnacher, were flown to Methodist Hospital for further treatment.
The sheriff’s department was informed Monday afternoon of the driver’s death. Police could not provide Brettnacher’s condition as of Monday afternoon.
