Las Cruces, NM : Two teenage girls injured in a hit-and-run crash on Monday September 14 2015

An 82-year-old driver facing charges in a hit-and-run crash that injured two teenage girls in Las Cruces has been found incompetent to stand trial.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports (http://bit.ly/1Qksjl7 ) the case was dismissed Monday after the attorney for Rudalfo Villegas filed a motion saying his client has dementia and would not become competent by trial.
Villegas faced eight charges in the December 2014 crash that injured 16-year-old twin sisters. Police say Villegas had been driving in a pickup when he struck the sisters, who had been walking in a crosswalk.
Villegas later pleaded not guilty to all eight charges.
A spokeswoman for the 3rd Judicial District Attorney's Office says prosecutors will not refile the charges at a later date.
Villegas is no longer allowed to drive.
