Oregon City, OR : Oregon City man in serious condition after two-motorcycle crash on U.S. 26 near Sandy Wednesday morning September 23 2015
An Oregon City man remains in serious condition after a two-motorcycle crash that shut down U.S. 26 east of Sandy for more than three hours Wednesday morning.
Marc R. Gibson, 65, is undergoing treatment at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, where he was flown by helicopter ambulance.
The other motorcycle rider, Vernon Henderson, 68, of Clackamas was transported by ambulance to Emanuel, where he is in good condition.
Lt. Bill Fugate, Oregon State Police spokesman, said preliminary reports indicate Gibson and Henderson were riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles east on U.S. 26. When they reached Milepost 32, shortly before 8 a.m., Gibson's motorcycle drifted left and hit the center cable barrier. Henderson, who was following, then hit Gibson's motorcycle.
Both were thrown from their motorcycles onto the highway.
A Hoodland Fire District crew stabilized Gibson and Henderson at the scene. Gibson was flown by Life Flight helicopter. Henderson was transported by American Medical Response ambulance.
The highway was shut down in both directions until about 11:20 a.m., when state highway crews finished picking up debris strewn over the roadway. Traffic temporarily was detoured around the crash site along Cherryville Drive.
