McAllen, TX : Mission councilwoman's husband dies after crash early Thursday morning, December 22, 2016
Mission police are in the preliminary stages of investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash early Thursday morning, according to law enforcement authorities.
The husband of a city councilwoman died Thursday after he was involved in the incident, according to a news release.
Oscar Garza, of Mission, died of injuries suffered after a vehicle struck the man at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday as he walked his dogs near the intersection of 29th Street and North Bryan Road, the release states.
The 59-year-old man is husband to Norie Gonzalez Garza, Place 3 Mayor Pro-Tem, according to a city official.
“Upon the officers’ arrival, it was discovered that a pedestrian, who was walking his dogs, was struck by a motor vehicle as it traveled southbound on Bryan Road,” the release further states.
Police said the motorist stopped and notified authorities.
No other details were released and, at the time the statement was issued, charges had not been filed against the driver.
Calls to Mission Police Chief Robert Dominguez went unreturned.
