Shawnee,OK : OHP pursuit ends with crash in Seminole County; intoxicated driver injured on January, Monday 22nd 2018
A pursuit in Seminole County Monday afternoon ended with a trooper-involved crash and the injured driver found to be intoxicated, reports show.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol shows the accident occurred about 2:17 p.m. on U.S. 377, south of SH 99A in Little.
A 2012 Dodge flatbed pickup, driven by Stacy Rae Lena, 36, Konawa, was involved in that accident with a OHP Dodge Charger driven by Trooper David Brown.
The OHP reports the trooper was working radar on EW 177 and U.S. 377 when the pickup was northbound going 80 mph in a 65-mph zone.
The trooper activated his emergency lights and the pickup slowed to 50 mph, but refused the yield, the patrol reported, as the pursuit continued several miles. At one point, the pickup went left of center, the OHP said, causing a UPS truck to exit the roadway to avoid a collision.
At another point, the driver did a U-turn, the OHP said, and passed oncoming traffic in the wrong lanes and on hill crests before running a stop sign and entering southbound U.S. 377. In an area south of SH 99A, Trooper Brown attempted a TVI — Tactical Vehicle Interception — and both vehicles departed the roadway to the left, going into the median and then returning to the roadway.
The pickup then departed the road again, entered in a broadside and rolled, coming to rest on the driver’s side, the OHP said.
Aided by Trooper Keith Burch, the vehicle was approached and cleared with the driver being the only occupant. After breaking the windshield, first responders removed the driver.
Lena was reported to be intoxicated, the OHP report shows. She was taken by ambulance to St Anthony Shawnee Hospital, then transferred to Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where she was listed in stable condition with head, trunk internal, external and arm and leg injuries.
