Tulsa, OK : Tulsa police officer injured in alleged head-on DUI collision on April, Thursday 13th 2017
A Tulsa police officer was injured just after midnight early Thursday when an alleged drunk driver hit his patrol car, causing a rollover.
The officer was treated at a hospital and released, Officer Leland Ashley said.
Ronald McMorris, 48, of Tulsa struck off-duty Officer K. Hoey in his patrol vehicle in the area of 51st Street and 65th West Avenue, according to an arrest report.
McMorris was westbound on 51st when his vehicle drifted into the eastbound lane, according to the report. The officer was eastbound and said a black GMC pickup hit him head-on. When Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers arrived, both vehicles were on their sides.
McMorris allegedly had "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" on his breath and told the trooper he had drunk a six-pack of beer, according to the report. McMorris had a blood alcohol level of 0.13.
He was booked into the Tulsa Jail on complaints of driving under the influence while causing an injury accident and failing to stay in the proper lane. He was being held in lieu of $3,600 bond, according to jail records.
