Copiah County ,MS : Four people killed after fatal car crash on Wednesday early morning ,August 19th 2015
The four people killed in an early morning accident on I-55, just north of Crystal Spring, have been identified. The driver of the 2014 Hyundai has been identified as 22-year-old Jeanelle Lemieux of New Orleans. The front seat passenger is 19-year-old Davell Gethers, also of New Orleans.
The two back seat passenger were 4-month-old Bradley Lemieux and 18-month-old Riley Lemieux, both of New Orleans.
According to reports, they were all traveling to Missouri to visit family.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but troopers say the evidence is consistent with the driver falling asleep.
Dozens of Crystal Springs and Hopewell volunteer firefighters rushed to the accident scene around 3:15 a.m.
The vehicle appeared to be rented rented out of Texas. It left the roadway, and collided with a tree then burst into flames.
Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said, "We need to thank the first responders, you all never give us a chance to do that, but they are what makes this. That's all volunteer people out there doing that and they come out in droves in this county its wonderful."
The bodies of all four victims killed in the crash are being taken to the state crime lab.
