A St. Charles motorcyclist remains in Hurley Medical Center with spinal injuries and a leg that had to be amputated mid-shin following a collision with a car on M-52, just north of M-57 on Friday, Aug. 5.
The Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department was called to the traffic collision at 9:12 p.m. on Aug. 5. Lt. Mike Gomez said the St. Charles man was driving northbound on a Harley Davidson motorcycle when a Chesaning man driving a Chevrolet Cruze southbound turned left into a gas station, colliding with the motorcycle.
The St. Charles man was air lifted to Hurley Medical Center by a LifeNet of Michigan helicopter, with the aid of the Sheriff’s department, MMR, the Chesaning Police Department and Chesaning-Brady Fire Department. The road was closed for three hours while the crash investigation team worked.
Lt. Gomez said, “We do believe alcohol was a factor.” The Chesaning man is out on bond, while the results of blood alcohol tests are pending.
When asked whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, Lt. Gomez said, “No helmet was found.”
