Tallahassee, FL : Man killed after getting out of vehicle on Florida's Turnpike on Friday, March 10th 2017

A man was killed and a woman critically injured on Florida's Turnpike on Friday after they got out of their vehicle to adjust a tarp and were hit by a truck, troopers said.The identities of the man and woman have not been released pending notification to their families.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the pair had pulled over on northbound Florida's Turnpike just south of State Road 417 to adjust a tarp on a trailer they were towing. As they stood on the right shoulder, a 2015 Ford truck driven by Cristian Palmero, 21, of Kissimmee drifted onto the shoulder and hit both of them.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Palmero was not injured.

The crash is under investigation.
