Piqua, OH : 21-year-old person injured after rollover crash on southbound I-75 in Piqua on Saturday May 28, 2016.
A driver suspecting that he was about to be stopped for speeding, flipped his car as he was attempting to exit southbound I-75 at the 83 mile marker in Piqua.
Troopers said the vehicle was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed when it crashed around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, and the car came to rest on its side.
The driver, identified as 49-year-old Harold Howard, of Cincinnati, was tazed for not following orders from the trooper. He and a female passenger, identified as 21-year-old Tyra Adams, of Cincinnati, were taken to Upper Valley Medical Center near Troy for treatment of minor injuries. A hospital spokesperson said both were treated and released from the hospital.
The car, registered from Hamilton County, was clocked at 98 mph in a 70 mph zone in Shelby County just south of Fair Road. The trooper was not in pursuit, but was getting into a position to make a traffic stop on the car as the vehicle exited the Interstate, jumped a curb and rolled over.
Sgt. Brent Johnson of the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Howard has been charged with reckless operation, failure to maintain control, and failure to comply with a lawful order.
