Lancaster, CA : Two people injured after a California school bus crash on Tuesday, February 7, 2017

A school bus and car crashed in California, toppling the bus onto its side and critically injuring two people, including a student Tuesday, authorities said.

Nine others received minor injuries. The driver of the car and a student on the bus were hospitalized, Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Richard Licon said.

The bus was carrying eight special-education students and two staff members in the high desert city of Lancaster, said spokeswoman Betsy Sanchez with Antelope Valley Union High School District.

Paramedics responded shortly after 7:15 a.m. to an intersection where the crash crumpled a Cadillac and toppled a utility pole. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating and does not know yet how the crash happened.

The bus driver was not hurt. The students were on their way to Eastside High School, Sanchez said.
