One person is dead and two others were taken to North Colorado Medical Center following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 85 at Weld County Road 66.
Lydia Villegas, 59, of Greeley, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 10:45 a.m. four miles north of Greeley, according to a Weld County Coroner’s Office news release.
Villegas was a passenger in a 1996 Mercury Sable traveling west on Weld County Road 66. The driver, an unidentified 18-year-old woman, stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 85. When she entered the intersection, the Mercury was struck by a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 heading north in the right hand lane on U.S. 85.
After the impact, the Mercury rolled on its wheels across the median and two southbound lanes of traffic before coming to rest in a ditch on the west side of U.S. 85., said Trooper Nate Reid, spokesman for Colorado State Patrol.
Both Villegas and the driver of the Mercury had to be extricated from the vehicle by Eaton firefighters. The driver was taken to North Colorado Medical Center by ambulance with serious injuries
