A Mecklenburg County sheriff's deputy is recovering Saturday after an early-morning crash just north of uptown Charlotte.
The office said Deputy L. Blackwelder was on duty just before 7 a.m. when the crash happened at the intersection of West 12th Street and North Church Street, just off I-277. The sheriff's office said another driver ran a red light, causing Blackwelder to hit them.
